In context of the spring gallery tour of the Spinnerei Galleries and 8 years of LIA-Programme we would cordially like to invite you to our next group show In Exchange. In the past eight years LIA has enabled 145 international artists to stay in the programme and has introduced them to the cultural landscape of Leipzig.
In the exhibition and open studios you can see the latest works of six international awardees from five different nations. New York based artists Andrea Garcia Vasques and Kylie Lefkowitz focus on unexpected effects in the working process with textiles and others materials. Catalina Bauer from Chile shows her new video I dreamed, I was a spinning which deals with the history of the Spinnerei. Anamaria Avram from Romania works site specific and develops an installation which opens up a new perspective on the routine of everyday life. Slovenian painter Mitja Ficko creates in his pictures intimate personal stories and poetry. David Palliser from Australia shows images which oscillate between abstraction and figuration. He will be performing improvised music using his saxophone, loop pedal and objects. Materiality of sound and structural flux will be traversed and their relationship to the works on paper produced during his residency.
