Michelle Eistrup ist eine bildende Künstlerin, geboren in Kopenhagen von einer jamaikanischen Mutter und einem dänischen Vater. Sie wuchs in Jamaika, Paris und New York auf. Heute lebt und arbeitet sie in Kopenhagen, Dänemark.

Michelle Eistrups künstlerische Praxis erforscht die Geschichte, Vermächtnisse und die Leugnung / Abwesenheit des Kolonialismus, besonders in Dänemark. Dabei arbeitete sie hauptsächlich an den vier übergreifenden Themen: Identität und Ausdruck der afrikanischen Diaspora; Politik der Anerkennung; Dynamiken des Isolationismus, verkörperte Riten und Rituale,  Körperlichkeit, Glauben, Gedächtnis und Postkolonialismus.

Derzeit arbeitet Eistrup an einem Film, Natango Zuzu (All Suns Forever). Dieses Stück vereint Artefakte afrikanischer Kultur und Spiritualität mit Geschichten und Menschen im Süden der Vereinigten Staaten sowie dem Königreich Kongo/ Angola. Die Verbindung dieser Objekte zielt darauf ab, unterschiedliche Umgebungen zu vereinen und verborgene Bedeutungen latenter sichtbar zu machen. Während ihres Aufenthalts im LIA arbeitet Michelle an einem ihrer Nkisis-Filme  und an der Entwicklung eines Radierung für die “Nordic-Leipzig” Edition.

Eistrup hat in verschiedenen Kunstinstitutionen und Galerien ausgestellt, unter anderem in der National Art Gallery (Kingston, Jamaika), The Modern Museum (Stockholm), Haugar Vestfold Kunstmuseum (Norwegen), Kuala Lumpur, Fine Art Museum (Malaysia), The Taitu Art Center (Äthiopien, Arnolfini (London) und dem Momentum Nordic Festival für moderne Kunst (Moss) . Eistrup hat bereits an Residenzen in Schweden, Senegal, Kenia und Trinidad teilgenommen.
