Gazellah Bruder ist eine \u00e4u\u00dferst erfolgreiche und international bekannte K\u00fcnstlerin mit Tolai- und Mekeo-Vorfahren, die in Papua-Neuguinea (PNG) lebt und arbeitet. Sie ist Malerin, Grafikerin, Bildhauerin, Buchillustratorin und Textilk\u00fcnstlerin und hat auch im Film- und Fernsehbereich gearbeitet. Ihre Arbeit konzentriert sich auf soziale Themen, Geschlechterfragen, Sexualit\u00e4t und Umweltver\u00e4nderungen, und sie nutzt ihre Kunst, um den Dialog \u00fcber diese wichtigen Themen zu f\u00f6rdern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bruder besch\u00e4ftigt sich insbesondere mit der Ungleichbehandlung von Frauen und h\u00e4uslicher Gewalt in Papua-Neuguinea. Ein Gro\u00dfteil ihrer Kunst dr\u00fcckt ihre Einsichten in die Erfahrungen von Frauen und deren Lebenswege aus. Im Gegensatz zu den euro-amerikanischen Stereotypen \u00fcber die Menschen in Melanesien \u2013 einer Region Ozeaniens, die sich von Papua-Neuguinea und West-Papua bis Fidschi erstreckt \u2013, die sie lange Zeit als \u201eprimitive\u201c, exotisierte oder erotisierte Karikaturen oder als anthropologische \u201eTypen\u201c darstellten, f\u00e4ngt Bruder in ihren Darstellungen von Frauen aus Papua-Neuguinea deren Pers\u00f6nlichkeiten, Erfahrungen und Widerstandsf\u00e4higkeit ein. Ihre Arbeit hat nationale Anerkennung gefunden, und im Jahr 2020 w\u00e4hlte die Regierung von Papua-Neuguinea sie und vier weitere K\u00fcnstler aus, um an der Initiative der Vereinten Nationen zur Erstellung von Informationsmaterialien zur Pr\u00e4vention und Bek\u00e4mpfung von Gewalt gegen Frauen teilzunehmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
