Born in 1983 in El Kamechli, Syria. Works and lives in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Natalia Ossef receives her BFA with honors Painting at the Art Academy in Utrecht, The Netherlands in 2011. Cultural identity and memories of her native country play a central role in the paintings by Natalia Ossef. Based on found photographs, postcards and other pictures she reshapes a past in abstractive figuration and pastel shades. Sometimes the pictures/paintings are recognizable, like family-portraits. Sometimes, when their pose and staging are more important, she paints figures without detailed facial features. Each work can be read as a chapter in a travel story that pull certain places and moments from oblivion.
