Elise Lafontaine Born in 1984, she lives and works in Montreal, Canada. She is currently completing her BFA in the Department of Studio Arts at Concordia University. Since 2009, her works have been exhibited in Canada, the United States, Japan and Turkey. "My painting questions the delicate and complex relationships between Man and Nature; it attempts to stress our domesticated surroundings as a byproduct of culture. Natural and artificial elements – ancient architecture, ruins of civilisations, forests, industrial machines or even familiar objects – come together in utopian landscapes where all seems deconstructed, fragmented, abstract and even unattainable. My compositions reflect varied degrees of a muddled, isolated and forgotten world. They play on the paradox of the conspicuous absence of any human presence in an altered nature, of an environment nevertheless marked by Man’s intervention."
