GRAVITY BACH & ARTE CONCERT – 22 hours of art, Bach music, and collaboration

ART MEETS MUSIC – MOVING COMFORT ZONES

ARTE CONCERT presented GRAVITY BACH, an extraordinary 22-hour marathon celebrating the intersection of classical music and contemporary art. Three artists from the Leipzig International Art Programme (LIA) — Hal OsawaMolly Sturge, and Jett Ilagan took part in this ambitious event, contributing immersive visual works that accompanied the continuous live performances. Their participation reflected LIA’s commitment to fostering international artistic exchange and connecting Leipzig’s vibrant creative scene with global audiences, as the concert was streamed worldwide. We extend our warmest thanks to Armida Film and ARTE Concert for this inspiring collaboration and to everyone who joined us for this unique artistic experience — a true celebration of endurance, imagination, and the power of intentional partnership.

Jett Illagan / Philippines: ” It was a different and new experience.  I would describe my process as a slow one, and sometimes a planned one. But for this project, it made me think of ways to create something fast and something do-able given the materials that I have and the limitations of the project.

Responding to Bach’s music is also an interesting experience. I have heard his works before of course, but to some extent, this is the first time I really get to experience most of his pieces.

I thought there will be an opportunity for me to be connected with the other artists, but this platform is more internal and isolated one. While drawing, listening to Bach, and seeing the St.Thomas church, it made me remind of my wonderful days at LIA-Leipzig International Art Programme. The people I met and friendships I created!

Finally, my take away from this is that, I realized that I can create something beautiful in just a span of 22 hours.

Thank you for trusting me and my work!”
