Papua New Guinea artist 𝐆𝐚𝐳𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡 𝐁𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐫 joined the 𝐋𝐈𝐀 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 from August to October thanks to the support of the Foreign Federal Office and its research programme on Germany’s colonial past. We are grateful to her gift to the 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐦, leaving her trace for the Leipzig public. We would like to cordially invite you to the opening of 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐁𝐞𝐥 – 𝟓𝟎 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐩𝐮𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐚 and thank the GRASSI Museum sincerely for this inspiring cooperation.

𝐏𝐚𝐩𝐮𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐚 gained independence in September 1975.
Fifty years later, the country is celebrating this historic anniversary with numerous cultural initiatives worldwide. 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐁𝐞𝐥 is one of these projects: a global alliance of partner institutions. Over 40 museums in 14 countries are participating, including the GRASSI Museum of Ethnology in
Leipzig with its significant collection. A special presentation focuses on
cultural artifacts from the Papua Gulf, the Sepik River region, and the Bismarck Archipelago.
