We are happy to invite you to a special discussion and performance with our resident author nolwazi mbali mahlangu at the German Literature Institute.
nolwazi mbali mahlangu is a context creator, poetic pedagogist, and perfecter of play. She is a published performance poet, storyteller, writer, actor, creative research assistant, slam judge, applied drama and theatre facilitator, playback theatre practitioner, voice-over artist, art administrator, stage manager, poetic inquirer, and theatre photographer.
Currently, her practice interrogates migration in its multiple registers:
the migration of people, yes, but also of language, faith, and memory.
“As umkhaphi womzimba, a narrative and an archive, this journey is not only a physical crossing; it is a spiritual one. I come carrying home and the prayers of the archive, seeking to understand how faith itself migrates—reshaped, translated, sometimes wounded—in its encounter with new lands and old empires. I hope to listen deeply in the spaces where devotion and displacement meet, and to let those echoes reconfigure my art.”
The discussion will be moderated by Sonali Beher. Sonali (born 1997 in Giessen) is a writer and currently a student at the German Institute of Literature. She writes prose, essays, and theatre texts. The discussion will also feature Anna-Louise Rolland, a German cultural scientist, curator, and author best known as the founder and director of the Leipzig International Art Programme (LIA).
