Born in London and identifying as German-Irish, Annabel O’Hara is an emerging artist whose practice centres on vulnerability, embodiment, and subconscious expression, working through a hybrid of drawing and writing that embraces immediacy and ambiguity.
Her practice has been developed through visualisations of curious and unstable forms, and attempts at grounding intrusive thought patterns.
Rooted in the language of abstract eroticism, O’Hara develops an original visual vocabulary through bodily references that shift between the intimate and the monumental. Obscure gestures toward anatomy and genitalia are appropriated in order to explore gender, power, and perversion, not as fixed identities but as fluid, destabilised states.
Her current work engages with anticipatory grief and its socio-political connotations, considering how wider structures give platform to private anxieties of control, intimacy, and loss. Through ambiguous illustrative forms, the work reveals sentimentality while interrogating control.
The practice remains intentionally open, allowing forms, materials, and questions to shift in response to process and context.
