Term: July – December 2018
Stipendiary of the School of Visual Arts New York.
Brooklyn based artist Cassidy Clingman uses her upbringing in South Florida as a springboard for the concepts driving her photographic and sculptural works. Most commonly using the images and ideas of swimming pools to explore the function of memory; the way in which memories can flood, be submerged, and become unclear in contrast to the clarity of the objects above the surface. This has also extended into an exploration of beaches, tourism, and overarching themes of the tropical continuing to investigate the concepts of memory as well as leisure and optics. Each resulting piece plays with the representational, the abstract, and the functional.
