Quế (aka Nguyễn Đức Hùng)

Residence: March ’25 – May ’25

Quế (aka Nguyễn Đức Hùng) is a self-taught visual artist and independent producer from Đà Nẵng, currently based in Sài Gòn, Việt Nam. His practice revolves around adaptation of digital media on physical surfaces. It explores the ability of personal adaptation through digital media (photography, graphic design and moving image…) with the mechanism of capturing, storing and visualizing unconsciously. From there, he traces the interaction between himself and the symbolic image to find the (pseudo)scientific origin of ontology in both perception and illusion.

Quế’s interested in the function of media in making objective conditions to communicate, recall memories, and construct narratives. Starting from personal stories that carry the generational pain of family history, Quế’s practice is rooted in urban life – through the eyes of the generation influenced by/ growing up in time of social change digitally; continued through deeper research about the other existences through (researching & artistic) texts.
