Papua New Guinea artist ๐†๐š๐ณ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐š๐ก ๐๐ซ๐ฎ๐๐ž๐ซ joined the ๐‹๐ˆ๐€ ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ข๐๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ฒ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ž from August to October thanks to the support of the Foreign Federal Office and its research programme on Germany’s colonial past. We are grateful to her gift to the ๐†๐‘๐€๐’๐’๐ˆ ๐Œ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฎ๐ฆ, leaving her trace for the Leipzig public. ๐๐š๐ฉ๐ฎ๐š ๐๐ž๐ฐ ๐†๐ฎ๐ข๐ง๐ž๐š gained independence in September 1975.
Fifty years later, the country is celebrating this historic anniversary with numerous cultural initiatives worldwide. ๐–๐š๐ง๐๐ž๐ฅ is one of these projects: a global alliance of partner institutions. Over 40 museums in 14 countries are participating, including the GRASSI Museum of Ethnology in
Leipzig with its significant collection. A special presentation focuses on
cultural artifacts from the Papua Gulf, the Sepik River region, and the Bismarck Archipelago.
