Upcoming Event: Book Discussion

📅 Date: 11th May
⏰ Time: 7 PM
📍 Location: German Literature Institute Leipzig

We invite you to a special reading and discussion with our resident author Welcome Mandla Lishiva at the German Literature Institute.

Welcome has been shortlisted for the 2023 UJ Debut Prize and longlisted for the Sunday Times Non-fiction Award. His latest work BOY ON THE RUN is a reflection on grief, belonging and the search for one’s place in the world. After the violent death of his mother, Welcome grew up in a South Africa characterized by social transformation. Between his school career, protest movements and journalistic work, he explores his identity, his sexuality and the power of community.

The discussion will be moderated by Sonali Beher. Sonali (born 1997 in Giessen) is a writer and currently a student at the German Institute of Literature. She writes prose, essays and for the theatre.

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with the author and explore the story behind the pages of BOY ON THE RUN.

The event will be held in English and admission is free.

A big thank you to our partners who made this event possible: the German Federal Foreign Office, the German Embassy in Pretoria, Akono Publishing House and the German Literature Institute.
