In addition to the LIAP residency (where I’m staying) and loooads of artists’ studios, the Spinnerei complex is home to no fewer than fourteen (!) galleries and Halle 14 / Center for Contemporary Art, which includes a library. I’m going to explore …
In Halle 14, the Center for Contemporary Art, there’s the group exhibition *Botenstoffe* (still on view through August 8). To my surprise, it features work by Sabrina Asche, an artist with a studio at the Spinnerei where I spent a month in 2020. A truly huuuuge studio—the size of a gym—with high ceilings and enormous windows, where I, as a non-artist, sat feeling a bit lost at a tiny desk, writing on my little laptop, hahaha. I’d heard back then about the project Asche was working on, so it’s really nice to be able to see the works now, out of the blue.

It’s a bit of overkill to do everything in one day, but it’s possible if you’re not staying in Leipzig for very long. And luckily, the complex also has a café, a bar in the garden, and a wine shop where, if you buy a bottle, you can drink it outside at a table—glasses and a corkscrew are provided free of charge for use there… sitting out in the summer sun at 25 degrees, it’s a great place to relax at the Spinnerei!
