African Leipzig fellows announcement

We are delighted that the two year project African Leipzig supported by the German Federal Foreign Office has resulted in a second edition of supporting visual artists based in Lesotho, Eswatini and South Africa end of this year. The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany Pretoria kindly announced three fellowships for visual artists to attend the LIA-Leipzig International Art Programme from November 2023 to January 2024. The resonance of the call was overwhelming. Out of over 700 applicants, the following 3 fellows were chosen during a professional jury meeting:

  • Sobukwe Thulasizwe Mapefane (Lesotho)
  • Nkosinathi Tembe (Eswatini)
  • Thalente Khomo (South Africa)

We are thankful for the initiative by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany Pretoria (South Africa) and for the kind local support giving guidance and professional input such as the Alliance Francaise Maseru (Lesotho), Liaison Office of the German Federal Foreign Office Mbabane & Yebo Art Gallery Mbabane (Eswatini) as well as African artists living and working in Leipzig having given advise. We are very much looking forward to this exchange.
