Erlend Rødsten (b 1996, Rygge, Norway) holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Malmö Art Academy (2022), and is currently based in Malmö. His work has been shown in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. He also co founded the exhibition space Canopy (2020-2022).
My practice is object-oriented and sculptural, and engaging with material properties is an integral part of how the work is articulated. I’m interested in how materials can appear fragile and violent, and an object’s capacity of narrating its own sociocultural context. A site where paradoxical concepts can coexist, a state of sculpture that is ambiguous or conflicting.
My work approaches our digital surroundings as much as our physical ones, drawing from experiences of an upbringing in rural Norway with early internet access. This is reflected in techniques of production where physical objects are often shaped by digital tools, such as CNC-milling and photogrammetry. It also resonates in projects directly engaging with online phenomena, carved out by an experience of global connectivity from a peripheral perspective.
