We warmly invite you to a special reading and book talk with our resident author Welcome Mandla Lishiva as part of the Leipzig Book Fair.
Welcome has been shortlisted for the 2023 UJ Debut Prize and longlisted for the Sunday Times Non-fiction Award. His remarkable work, Site Visits, an ethnographic study of a male-only nude bar, was shortlisted for the Gerald Kraak Anthology and was taught at the University of Johannesburg for itโs daring and humanising approach.
After the violent death of his mother, Welcome grew up in a South Africa characterized by social transformation. Between his school career, protest movements and journalistic work, he explores his identity, his sexuality and the power of community. His current work BOY ON THE RUN is a reflection on grief, belonging and the search for one’s place in the world.
Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with the author and explore the story behind the pages of BOY ON THE RUN.
The event will be held in English and admission is free.
A big thank you to our partners who made this event possible: the German Federal Foreign Office, the German Embassy in Pretoria and especially Akono Publishing House.
